Detroit Social Media Management

The Complete Guide to Social Media That Brings in Customers

Your business might have an incredible atmosphere. Maybe you provide an amazing experience. Maybe your service is genuinely better than the competition.

But how does someone who doesn't know you exist discover that?

They might drive past your sign every day. They might see your name online or come across your Instagram. Sometimes they'll stop and take a look. Sometimes they won't. What gives them a reason to pause?

That's where social media comes in. Volpe Media Co. builds a digital presence that consistently puts Metro Detroit businesses in front of people who may never have found them otherwise, with professional photo and video and a plan built to help your audience know, like, and trust you.

This guide covers what social media management includes, what kind of content actually moves customers, how shoots and monthly plans work, and how to decide whether hiring it out makes sense. Read straight through, or jump to the section you need.

[BOOK A SIT-DOWN]

What Social Media Management Covers

Social media management is the ongoing work of running a business's accounts: planning what goes out, creating it, writing it, posting it, and paying attention to how people respond. Done well, it's a system. Done poorly, it's a scramble every Tuesday night to find something, anything, to post.

For most businesses, it breaks into five parts:

  • Strategy: who you're trying to reach, what they care about, and what you want them to do next

  • Content creation: the photos and video that make up the feed

  • Copywriting: captions, hooks, and calls to action written in your voice

  • Scheduling and posting: getting content out consistently, when your audience is actually on

  • Review: watching what lands, responding, and adjusting each month

Some agencies only post and leave the content to you. Others shoot content and hand it back with no plan. We think of it in two parts: the tools, which are photos and videos, and the engine, which is posts, carousels, Stories, and strategy. Results come when both run together, putting the right feeling in front of the right people, consistently.

Why Your Social Media Isn't Working

Most business accounts stall for one of three reasons.

You're posting to post. Take a picture, write a caption, hit post, with no plan behind any of it. What moves the needle is harder to keep up: posting every single week, a feed that represents you, Stories that stay active, knowing what should be a post, a carousel, or a video, and tracking what's working so you can adjust.

You're chasing whatever's trending this week, instead of building something that's actually yours. Your business needs its own identity, with content that feels like you instead of someone else's trend.

Nothing is building trust, consistently. Trust comes from details adding up over time: consistency, timing, captions, calls to action, and paying attention to performance and how your audience responds.

Views Aren't the Job

"We got 12,000 views!" Cool. But did anyone want what you sell? Did anyone think, "I should go there"?

Think about the brand accounts you love to watch. The savage replies, the trends, the bits you send to the group chat. Now count how many times one made you buy something.

Then think about what actually made you want to go somewhere. A creator walking you through an omakase dinner, course by course. A pizza shop that started in a home kitchen, a handful of pies a day, gone when they're gone.

For a local business, the audience that matters lives within driving distance. Getting views is only part of it. The real work is turning attention into people who walk through your door.

Know, Like, Trust: The Six Stages

There might be 13 other businesses doing what you do. Similar skills, similar prices, similar equipment. So why does somebody choose you?

People compare prices all day. Eventually, they make an emotional decision about who they trust. Customers invest in a feeling, and they want to know what that feels like before they ever walk in.

Good social media moves people through six stages.

Know

  • 01 Attention: "Wait, what's that?" A great hook, a funny moment, a beautiful photo, or a trend stops the scroll.

  • 02 Awareness: "Oh, I've seen them before." Good content keeps you in their world and gives them a reason to remember you.

Like

  • 03 Interest: "Okay, tell me more." Your product, your people, your space, and what you do differently.

  • 04 Desire: "I want that." The first bite, a client favorite, something new before anyone else gets it.

Trust

  • 05 Intent: "I want to go." They save it, send it to a friend, check your hours.

  • 06 Action: "Let's do it." They visit, order, book, or call, and become a customer.

Attention and awareness only get you noticed. Nobody books with a business they don't trust.

No single post does all six. Some posts build awareness, some create desire, some drive action. A good strategy uses all of them together.

That's why we don't make content that could belong to any business. It shouldn't feel like an ad. It should feel like your business, so people see your posts and think, "I want to experience that."

Why Professional Photography Changes the Feed

The fastest way to tell how seriously a business takes itself is to scroll its feed. Dim phone photos, mismatched edits, and reposted stock images all send the same signal, fair or not.

Volpe Media Co. is built on photography, with more than 15 years behind the camera across weddings, events, commercial work, and food. Every post starts from a professional shoot, lit and composed on purpose, then curated. Not everything makes the feed, only the best of you, because the images you choose shape how people see your business before they ever walk through the door.

The same content works beyond Instagram. One shoot can refresh your Google Business Profile, your website, your menu, and your delivery app listings.

What a Content Shoot Looks Like

Each shoot runs about two hours, on location at your business. It's planned ahead so the time goes to shooting, not figuring out what to shoot.

Before the shoot, we confirm what's coming up that month: new menu items, events, promotions, seasonal changes, and people worth featuring. That becomes the shot list.

During the shoot, we capture both photography and vertical short-form video. Expect product and detail shots, your space at its best, people at work, and the in-between moments that make the strongest behind-the-scenes content. Shoots happen before open or during a slow window, so we're never in the way of business.

After the shoot, everything is edited, sorted, and built into posts. A typical shoot covers around eight posts, a mix of photo posts and two to three vertical videos.

How We Plan a Month of Content

Consistency beats volume. A steady rhythm of strong posts does more than a burst of daily content followed by three weeks of silence.

Each month starts with a content calendar: what's going out, when, and why. It's built around your real business calendar, so a seasonal menu, a holiday weekend, or a pop-up event gets content timed to drive people to it, instead of posted after it's over.

A typical month balances four kinds of posts:

  • Product and offer posts: what you sell and why it's worth coming in for

  • Behind-the-scenes posts: the people, process, and prep customers never see

  • Story posts: the history, the owner, the reason the place exists

  • Timely posts: events, specials, launches, and seasonal changes

Captions are written in your voice, with a clear reason for each post and a next step for the reader.

Posts, Carousels, Stories, and Video

Every format has a job, and a good feed uses all of them on purpose.

  • Single posts build your visual identity

  • Carousels give people a reason to stop and swipe

  • Stories show what's happening behind the scenes

  • Photo and video reach people who don't know you yet

Which Platforms Matter

Instagram is the core of what we manage. For most local businesses, it's where customers go to check you out before they visit.

Facebook still matters for some audiences, especially businesses with an older customer base or a busy events calendar. TikTok can reach new local customers when the content fits the platform. Both are available as add-ons, so you only pay for the platforms that make sense for your business.

Your Google Business Profile deserves fresh photos too. It's often the first image of your business someone sees, before they ever reach your Instagram.

Doing It Yourself vs. Hiring It Out

And yes, you can absolutely do your own social media. You can take a picture, write a caption, and hit post.

But are you going to consistently create content, keep your Stories active, curate your profile, choose the right formats, and look at what's actually performing? And are you going to keep doing all of that while you're also running your business?

That's where we come in. If you'd rather keep posting in-house, Content Creation gives your team professional content to work with. If you want the whole account handled, that's what our management packages are for.

Social Media Management FAQs

Do I need to provide photos? No. All content comes from shoots at your business. If you have existing photos you love, we can work those in.

Will a shoot get in the way of business? No. Shoots are scheduled before open, after close, or during a slow window.

How long until I see results? Most businesses have a more consistent, professional feed within the first month. Growth in followers, engagement, and customers who mention finding you on Instagram builds over the months after that.

Do you make trend videos? Occasionally, when a trend actually fits your business. Most of our video is behind-the-scenes and story-driven, because that's what builds local customers.

Can you match my existing branding? Yes. Your colors, fonts, and voice carry through every post.

Do you run paid ads? Yes. Paid ad setup and monitoring is part of Full-Service Growth. Ad spend is billed separately.

Do you work outside Detroit? Yes. We serve all of Metro Detroit, including Ann Arbor, Dearborn, Royal Oak, Ferndale, Birmingham, Sterling Heights, New Haven, Monroe, and surrounding areas.
